Non-enzymatic fragmentation of ss DNA?

Is anyone aware of a non-enzymatic procedure for the fragmentation of ss DNA analogous to the heavy-metal ion catalysis of RNA molecules? In particular, something that will reduce fragment length to below 100bp. Sonication is a possibility but I believe it doesn't typically produce such small fragments.

Failing that, what enzymatic procedures have been used successfully (DNaseI presumably is the best option)?

Many thanks for any assistance

Pete
