Gels will not really show mRNA too well and even a slight degradation of
the rRNA bands will not necessarily be easy to spot. Other than doing an
RT-PCR or a quantitative analyis it will be tricky. I think some labs
are using the Agilent chip system to analyse RNA integrity i.e. possible
Ambion?

At the end of the day what level of degradation to you is acceptable?
