GPI anchor - how strong?

I would be interested to hear peoples views on the strength of a GPI
I have expressed a protein on the surface of mammalian cells - approx 500
copies. Attempting to grab the cells with a corresponding mAb attached to a
paramagnetic bead I was surprised to see that the cells were not rosetted at
a frequency any higher than untransfected cells.
I assumed that the ligand, detecable by FACS using the same mAb, was being
yanked off the surface.
Though other explanations are possible.
