I have not found that necessary for bacterial stocks, particularly so after
just thawing one out dated 10/10/95.
However, for tissue culture cells I find it in my best interest to have
anything older than 4 years thawed out grown for a week and refrozen. The
extra effort definately helps in the recovery time when I really need the
cells.
