RNA-binding proteins: How to assay?

Hi Netters,

I have a small protein which I suspect of having RNA-binding activity. I
don't know if this activity is sequence-specific or not. I need a method
to prove RNA-binding activity in this protein without knowing it's
target sequence(s). Can I label total cell RNA and use a gel-shift assay
(how?), or should I use polyribonucleosides bound to agarose beads and
label the protein by in vitro translation?

Any ideas greatly appreciated,

Andrew Plume
