I seem to recall a colorimetric method that used victoria blue dye, and
didn't involve all the nasty things associated with phosphate assays. If
you do choose the molybdate method though, be sure to acid-wash all your
glassware to avoid high background. Try Ames, B.N., Meth Enzymol, 1966.
