phosphorothioate oligos as primers in PCR

I tried a PCR with 1 oligo containing all phosphorothioates and 1 normal
oligo and that didn't work despite various optimising attempts. The only
way I got it to work was to have the part of the oligo that was
complementary to the template containing normal nucleotides and then to
have a 5' noncomplementary region and it was in this that I put the
phosphorothioates and that worked just fine.
Hope that helps,
Phil
