DEPC-treatment (was: RNase-free water)

 Hmmm, they suspect that "high amounts" of VOLATILE by-products cause 
some harm...
 
 Regarding their data (para #6) about the harmfullness of DEPC itself: 
nothing there indicates how long their DEPC was left in acqueous 
solution? That stuff is unstable in water and should break down after 
about 30 mins, right? Overnight at 37?C?

 Does somebody know who has started this DEPC-treatment up? Probably 
they evaluated all this  ;^)
