X-Gal precipitates...?

Does anybody know why there is sometimes a crystalline precipitate
from the X-gal reaction mix as used to reveal b-galactosidase in
cells? Stock solutions and the mix are fresh, temperature is RT and
still, sometimes -but not each time.....!- a precipitate forms.
Thanks

Jean-Paul
