RT vs. first strand synthesis

Hello- Can anyone describe the difference between an RT kit and a cDNA first
strand synthesis kit?  I always assumed that the two performed the same
function.  However, some companies offer both types and some papers describe
first strand sythesis products being used for RT-PCR.  Thank you for any
information provided-Shane
