Hogness Modified Freezing Medium (HMFM)

Over twenty years ago when I was a post-doc at the NIH, somebody gave me a
recipe for an excellent freezing medium for E. coli. You just add a one
tenth volume to the broth either before or after growing the cells. It's
called Hogness Modified Freezing Medium.

Does anybody know what the original source of this stuff is? Is it published
anywhere?
