pH adjustment in Tris-HCl buffer?

I'd say the preferred method is to start with Tris base and then adjust
downward with HCl. Alternatively, you could take a solution of Tris-HCl
and a solution of Tris base of the same concentration and mix them until
you reach the desired pH. Adding NaOH (essentially backtitrating an
overshot) leads to a higher concentration of NaCl than you intend, which
may or may not have actual effects on your experiment.
