Using kits or premade solutions does not equate to dumbing down. Kits
contain reagents which have been optimised in quantity to reduce waste
and quality to reduce variability. Kit manufacturers also often
produce authorititive manuals with references which contain useful
advice along side the protocol; unfortunately these are often not
fully read. Many of the kits are also codeveloped with experts in
their respective fields.
Kits are also friendly for your purchasing dept. because they can
often work out cheaper than buying the components separately and
there's fewer items to order.
Yes, kits and robotics do make life easier for the researcher.
