Sodium N-chloro-4-toluenesulphonamide (chloramine-T)  breaks down
under mildly alkaline conditions to form hypochlorous acid which
oxidises NaI to form I+, this will react with imidazol. Use a
desalting column, a reverse-phase cartridge, or if you have lots of
time on your hand DK's dialysis idea.
