transformation in yeast shuttle vector

Dear all,

i'm unable to transform my desired gene in the yeast shuttle vector pRS416.
after ligation, when i transform this mix in DH5a cells, there are no colonies
observed. moreover the cell mass can be observed in the form of a dirty smear
over the plate. i have changed the vector stock, the competent cell stock bt it
just doesnt transform. the vector control plate also shows no colonies, bt as
soon as i ligate the insert to this vector, the cell mass is observed. wat could
be the reason for this??
