Stability of reduced proteins

Hi,

when I reduce a protein, how stable (in terms of hours) are the the
reduced SH groups in aqueous environments when the reducing agent has
been removed? Do I need to take special precautions like degassing,
maybe even working under inert gas atmosphere?
