Haven't seen one of these in years.  They do cause somewhat of an aerosol
problem in use.  If you are trying to open up pathogenic bacteria, have you
considered using a Bead Beater?  This is a simple, low cost apparatus that
uses glass beads and has good containment.  It works with small volumes
and opens both gram positive and gram negative organisms.
