How do I grow Alcaligenes without flocs?

I've tried rich media and minimal media, but Alcaligenes eutrophus 
continues to flocculate under my watchful gaze.  This makes OD readings 
impossible.  Is there something I can add to the media, or some ion 
concentration I should change to obtain a homogeneous culture?  I'm sure 
this must be a common problem in bioreactors, but I can't find anything 
in the literature...
