Why don't we take candidate Earth organisms such as those that live in extreme environments and inoculate Mars? Remote sensing equipment can be placed there and we can monitor them. Certainly this experiment won't answer the question whether there was life on Mars but, it would answer another important question: That is, whether Mars can support life.... BobE
