Spirillum volutans ?

Hi,
I am trying to find more information about keeping cultures of 
Spirillum volutans in long term storage (1-2 years), without 
having to transfer every few days.  Can these be lyophilized 
or ? for this type of storage.  Also, any suggestions for 
harvesting from the environment and keeping a working stock 
for teaching purposes, would be greatly appreciated.
