Immunity in children

I know this is heresy but how hygienic where the conditions of the 
childs upbringing ? Very hygieninc ? Ultra hygienic ? Downright paranoid 
hygienic ? Did the poor little soul have a chance to develop any 
immunity anyway ?
Just a thought. Our lovely "clean" society seems to be producing an 
awful lot of of allergies. Maybe a kid should be allowed to get really 
dirty just once in a while.
