Dr. John Smit, University of British Columbia, has at least one
postdoctoral position available, effective immediately, which he would like
to fill as soon as possible. The position is to participate in a project to
develop Pseudomonas aeruginosa vaccines candidates, using the Caulobacter
crescentus S-layer expression system. The project involves collaborative
aspects with researchers at the University of Alberta, University of
Calgary, as well as others. This fusion protein expression system is being
developed as a flexible and cost effective vehicle for production of
multi-component subunit vaccines as well as other commercially relevant
recombinant proteins. This is one of several protein expression projects
currently underway in the laboratory and the candidate would have
opportunity to be involved with aspects of other projects, as well as work
directed to understanding detailed aspects of the protein secretion system.
The candidate should have a strong background in microbial molecular
biology and an interest in working at the juncture between basic science
aspects of membrane structure/function and the needs of a potential
commercial venture.

Candidates should fax their resume to John Smit ([604) 822-6041) or mail to
the address listed below as soon as possible. For further information
please feel free to e-mail Dr. Smit directly, or call at (604) 822-4417 (I
am away the week of 4 August, however)
