A post-doctoral position has arisen in the mycology laboratory of the
Department of Plant Pathology, University of Stellenbosch, South Africa,
for a motivated candidate who is interested in the systematics and
phylogenetic relationships of plant pathogens such as Mycosphaerella and
Botryosphaeria. The mycology laboratory is a dynamic research group
with a well equipped molecular laboratory and access to automated
sequence facilities. The team is involved in research aimed at
understanding the phylogenetic relationships of various plant pathogenic
groups, especially Mycosphaerella and its anamorphs. A Ph.D. in
mycology, plant pathology or fungal genetics would be preferred, with
experience in general molecular techniques (Southern blot analysis,
sequencing etc.), and data analysis using appropriate software
packages. The position is available from 1 Jan 1998 or as soon as
possible thereafter.
