Try to have a look into the "Handbook of Protoctista" (1990) by Margulis,
M., Corliss, J.O., Melkonian, M. and Chapman, D.J. (eds.), Jones and
Bartlett Publishers, London.
It is a huge book about the different phyla of protists and algae and
should give you a lot of answers to a lot of questions. Another book for
predominantly photosnthetic phyla is: "Algae - An Introduction to
Phycology" by Hoek, C. van den, Mann, D.G. and Jahns, H.M. (1995),
Cambridge University Press. This will give you information about
euglenophytes and chrysophytes.
