How to keep bacteria from moving?

Sonication in a normal ultrasound water bath in a polystyrene tube(10 to
20 seconds in a hot spot) will 'shave off' the flagella.  They will then
hold still for quite a while for image or flow cytometric measurements. 
This does not effect their viability.
