Position and Location:
 	Plant Pathologist, Extension (100%) 
 	12-month Tenure-track Faculty Position
 	Department of Plant Pathology, University of Georgia, Tifton Campus

 Responsibilities:
 	Extension Plant Pathology program for vegetable production, including
the
 transplant industry, with statewide responsibilities but emphasis in
the
 Coastal Plain region.  This position will be responsible for developing
and
 implementing an Extension education program that will include (1)
county
 agent training, assistance and support, related to vegetable  disease
diagnosis and identification; and disease management  practices (2)
grower/public clientele education, (3) appropriate
university-county-industry liaison, (4) interaction with other Extension
and research faculty with the  University, USDA-ARS, and other states,
(5) cooperation with other appropriate public agencies such as Georgia
Department of Agriculture, USDA-SCS, and USEPA, (6) preparing technology
transfer materials (bulletins, circulars, leaflets, newsletters,
articles, section 18 emergency requests, and scientific writings) for
training and other educational  purposes.  A partial research
appointment may be possible in the future depending on the incumbent's
interest and success in addressing extension needs.
 	
 	Both traditional Extension education methods and innovations are
encouraged
 to help carry out this assignment.  These methods include grower
 meetings/short courses, extension leaflets, bulletins, journal
articles,
 greenhouse and field demonstration and/or research plots, field
days/tours,
 field trouble shooting visits, newsletters, mass media, computer
programs
 and liaison with commodity/industry groups.

 Qualifications:
 	Ph.D. in Plant Pathology or related area.  Research and/or extension
 experience in vegetable pathology and disease management. Excellent 
verbal and written communication skills are essential.

 Rank and Salary:
 	Assistant or Associate Professor, rank and salary commensurate with
 qualifications and experience.
