Different microbiology texts I have checked list mesosomes as "tube shaped cell membrane invaginations that are formed by some Gram positive bacteria" Microbiology, dynamics and diversity (Perry and Staley). However, Tortora Funcke and Case lists these structures as artifacts. Can anyone point me to a reference regarding the current status of the mesosome? Cheers.
