E. coli is an intestinal bacteria which is acquired fecal-oral, usually through contaminated water, although there have been several outbreaks of E. coli diseases associated with undercooked hamburger meat (which was ultimately linked to the use if contaminated water during processing), and with uinpasteurized fruit juices.
