Columbus On-Line Waste Water Respirometer
We have recently developed On-Line Respirometer which is characterized by
number of innovations making it superior to other instruments for similar
application.
Instead of dissolved oxygen probes it measures oxygen depletion in the reactor
head space by the patented principle in the gaseous state. DO probes used in
other respirometers are known to be plagued by failures while pressure
monitoring respirometers (electrolytic etc.) are sensitive to air leaks and
barometric pressure changes as well as by changes in ambient temperature.
Removing oxygen sensor from the waste water environment makes Respirometer
much more reliable and opens possibilities to monitor also other evolved gases
beside oxygen such as CO2,H2S,CH4,H2,NH3 as well as pH. Measuring reactor
contains plastic granules covered with film of bacteria culture grown in the
same waste water environment as being measured. In periodic intervals, ranging
from 20 min to 90 min, determined by rate of biological degradation of the
measured waste water sample, one liter reactor is being refilled with new
sample and head space gasses are being sampled over time to determine
bacterial respiration through oxygen depletion. On programmable intervals
glucose or any other standard solution is being fed to the reactor to
calibrate bacterial culture to the known BOD level. Columbus On-Line
Respirometer automatically tests and dilutes waste water to bring measuring
sample to most accurate measuring level. BOD measuring range is from 10 mg/L
to 200,000 mg/L. Radio modem transfer data to remote lab or office computer
without need of wiring.
