Since you read the article on the internet, you should immediately be 
suspect as to the validity of the article.  
While there is still some question as to the precise nature of the 
agent responsible for spongiform encephalopathies, virtually all of 
the evidence still points to prions as the cause.  The issue isn't 
completely settled yet, but most data leads to prions.
