TCBS is suitable for the isolation of most pathogenic vibrios (not just
V. cholerae). the selectivity for vibrios is due to the incorporation of
bile salts and a high pH. Sucrose is present to differentiate the
sucrose fermenting and non fermenting Vibrio spp.
