Zithromax is Azithromycin. Its a very interesting antibiotic. It is a
macrolide (related to erythromycin), and has a broad spectrum, including
gram negatives and gram positives. Its most peculiar characteristic is
that it tends to be concentrated intracellularly long after the antibiotic
has disappeared from the extracellular environment. This gives it a long
duration of action in vivo, even when it is essentially gone from the
plasma.
