They could not have been contaminated with HIV accidentally, because
the HBV vaccine is a killed, not live-attenuated, vaccine, and
therefore has been sterilized post-packaging.  If the vaccines were
contaminated by the "act of a madman," it would have to be done at the
time of vaccination, as HIV doesn't remain infectious for very long
outside of the body at ambient temperature.  But IF, for the sake of
argument, IF the vaccines WERE contaminated AT the time of injection
of the volunteers by SOME madman, it MAY indeed have caused infection
of these dozen or so men, hypothetically, but that isolated criminal
act would STILL not explain the origin of the AIDS epidemic, since the
AIDS epidemic did not start with these volunteers in San Francisco, as
I've said before.
