Is it not as likely that the greater diversity in Africa just reflects
higher effective size of the human population in Africa during the
later pleistocene?    It may have nothing to do with time.  And if
there is more diversity in Africa, then tree generating algorithms
will make trees that look like there are unique African lineages but
a lot of others that have both African and non-African representatives.

I do believe that there was an expansion of Hssapiens from Africa, but
it is based on the archaeological record summarized by Richard Klein
and others.  The parsimony tree business is too close to hocus pocus
to be trusted IMHO.
