protein seq basics

Vol. 183 of _Methods in Enzymology_ is entitled "Molecular Evolution:
Computer Analysis of Protein and Nucleic Acid Sequences." Pub date is 1990.
I have always found this series extremely useful.  When I ran a biology
departmental library, several volumes seemed to have permanent "homes"
in various labs.
