Dear Colleagues,

I would like to call your attention to a special session
on biological modeling at the
Annual Conference on Evolutionary Programming.
If you have already submitted a paper to the general
conference but would like to present in the special session,
please inform your action editor.
Submissions can be sent either to me (the session chair) or the
EP98 co-technical chairs at the addresses below.
The deadline for submission is October 1, 1997.

ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS:
Special Session at EP98:
	"Applications of Evolutionary Algorithms to
Modeling and Analysis of Biological Systems"

MAIN CONFERENCE:
The Seventh Annual Conference on Evolutionary Programming
	March 25 - 27, 1998
Mission Valley Marriott, San Diego, USA
	(Details below)

ABSTRACT:

This session focuses on applications of evolutionary algorithms to
problems in biology. Examples include, but are not limited to,
application of evolutionary computation to:

- Models of biological learning and/or development.

- Analysis of biological data
   (e.g., sequence analysis, structure prediction)

- Multi-locus models of natural evolution

- Behavioral genetics
   (e.g., evolutionary stable strategies)

- Identification of kinetic parameters in biological systems
(e.g., chemical reactions or endocrine dynamics)

- Analysis of Ecological Systems

MAIN CONFERENCE:

EP98: The Seventh Annual Conference on Evolutionary Programming
March 25 - 27, 1998
Mission Valley Marriott, San Diego, USA
http://www.natural-selection.com/eps/ep98.html

The Seventh Annual Conference on Evolutionary Programming will serve as
a forum for researchers investigating applications and theory of
evolutionary programming and other related areas in evolutionary and
natural computation. Authors are invited to submit papers which describe
original, unpublished research in evolutionary programming, evolution
strategies, genetic algorithms, genetic programming, artificial life,
cultural algorithms, and other models that rely on evolutionary
principles. Specific topics include, but are not limited to, the use of
evolutionary simulations in optimization, neural network and filter
design, automatic control, image processing and computer graphics. Other
topics of interest include mathematical theory or empirical analysis
providing insight into the behavior of evolutionary algorithms. Of
particular interest are applications of simulated evolution to problems
in biology and operations research.
