evolutionary advantages of homosexual inclinations

Are there scientific or theorethical arguments that homosexual
inclinations are a benefit for species?

I remember to have read once that it is assumed that homosexual
inclinations of a male has the benefit of staying out of competition
with heterosexual males and stay alert to danger while a heterosexual
male is involved in copulation with a female.

He can warn the copulating two if an agressive enemy is approaching.

As far as homosexual inclinations are present amongst most animal
species there must be an evolutionary advantage from this.

Appreciate advice.
