     *                    A Special Symposium                       *
     *           on the Occasion of the 80th Birthday of            *
     *                  Prof. Christian de Duve                     *
     *                                                              *
     *      Saturday, October 11th, 1997 in Brussels, Belgium       *

October this year Prof. Christian de Duve will reach the respectable age
80 years. Christian de Duve received the "Nobel Prize in Medicine or
Physiology" in 1974, and in that same year he founded the International
Institute of Cellular and Molecular Pathology (ICP). 

To celebrate this event, the members of the "Laboratoire de Chimie
physiologique" of the "Universite catholique de Louvain" and the
Biochemistry Unit of the ICP, of which Christian de Duve has been the
director for many years, have decided to organise a reunion of as many
possible of his former and present colleagues. This meeting will show
Christian de Duve's pioneering experimental work has affected

This event will be organised on Saturday, October 11th, 1997, in the
of a special scientific symposium that will take place in the "Palais
Academies" in the centre of Brussels. At the end of the Symposium Prof.
Christian de Duve will be offered a present and a reception in the

The symposium will be open to all those interested in biomedical
