Please post the following ad for postdocs in brain research.

POSTDOCTORAL POSITION(S) AVAILABLE TO STUDY EVOLUTION AND DEVELOPMENT OF
THE PRIMATE BRAIN.

Postdoctoral position(s) (two years, plus possibility of a third) at the
Max Planck Institute of Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany
(Director S. Paabo), will be available as early as June 1, 1999. The
successful applicant will join a research group (P.I. Dr. C-H. Chiu)
investigating the evolution and development of the primate brain using in
situ and transgenic expression and/or comparative genome sequencing
approaches.

Applicants are expected to hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g.
evolutionary genetics, developmental biology, neurobiology) by the starting
date and have demonstrated considerable experience in at least PCR,
sequencing, and cloning. Additional experience in the following areas are
a plus: (1) in situ expression (2) analysis of transgene expression (e.g.
mouse, zebrafish), and/or (3) yeast recombination methods.

The salary starts at 2800 to 3,000 DM/month (approximately $22,000/year
U.S.) and is TAX FREE in Germany for the two year duration of MPI
postdoctoral fellowships. The salary increases with increased research
experience and if the fellow(s) is married. At the MPI-EVA, the successful
applicant(s) will join a large interactive group (several postdocs,
students, and technicians) with scientists working on projects ranging from
ancient DNA studies, comparative primate genome sequencing, and
theoretical/computational biology. The MPI-EVA has state of the art
equipment for molecular biology, including automated/robotic DNA sequencers
as well as excellent computational resources. There will also be
opportunities for the successful applicant(s) to collaborate with
scientists in the U.S.

NOTE: Successful applicant(s) starting by June 1, 1999 will receive
training in yeast homologous recombination and transgenic mouse
technologies at Yale University, New Haven, CT (USA) until February 1,
2000, in collaboration with the P.I. Successful applicant(s) will then
relocate to the P.I.'s new lab at the MPI-EVA in Leipzig, Germany.
Interested individuals should contact the P.I. (preferably by email).
Applications will be taken until a position(s) is filled.
