Please post the following ad for a postdoctoral fellow. Thank you.
POSTDOC FOR COMPARATIVE GENOME SEQUENCING AND ANALYSIS
The Dept. of Evolutionary Genetics, Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary
Anthropology, Leipzig, Germany (http://www.eva.mpg.de) has a position
available for a postdoctoral fellow with demonstrated research experience
in automated DNA sequencing and a working knowledge of computer programs
for contig assembly, sequence alignment, and phylogenetic analyses. S/He
will collaborate with a group interested in functionally analyzing genes
expressed in the mammalian brain, with focus on primates. The tasks of the
postdoctoral researcher will include (1) mapping and sequencing specific
regions of BAC/PAC clones across a comparative range of primate and
non-primate mammalian taxa and (2) utilizing sequence analysis tools for
identifying putative regulatory regions. These studies will complement
transgenic technologies for functionally defining regulatory regions.
Successful applicants are expected to be highly motivated and hold a Ph.D.
in a relevant field by the starting date which is somewhat flexible, but
not later than June, 2000. The salary is 3600 DM/month (equivalent to
$25,000.00 US/year) and is tax free for at least two years (citizenship is
open). The MPI-EVA has state of the art equipment for molecular biology,
including automated/robotic DNA sequencers as well as excellent
computational resources. There will also be opportunities for the
successful applicant(s) to collaborate with scientists world-wide.
Interested individuals should send a letter of application with the
curriculum vitae and the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of two
referees to Dr. Chi-hua Chiu.
Address before January 15, 2000:
