Postdoctoral Position in Molecular Evolution

A three-year postdoctoral fellowship is available to study the Deep
Phylogeny of Eukaryotes using combined gene sequences (Science 290:972,
300:1703). Emphasis will be on the phylogeny of major groups of amoebae
and the relationships among them. The post is available beginning
immediately or within 4 months and includes 25% technical support.

Applicants will need to have a PhD in a relevant field, preferably
molecular, microbial or evolutionary biology - ideally with experience
in either phylogeny or protistology. The project primarily will involve
protozoan cell culture, PCR amplification using degenerate primers and
phylogenetic analysis. Depending on interest, there is also scope and
resources to conduct bioinformatic analyses of genomic data.

The position is BBSRC-funded for 3 years with a salary of =A320,300-22,200
(~$36,000-40,000), depending on previous experience. Closing date for
applications is June 1, 2004. The University of York
(http://www.york.ac.uk/) is located in the medieval city of York
(http://www.ytb.org.uk/) in the Northeast of England, within 30 and 60
minutes of the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales, respectively.
