Straw vs. Wood chips?

I would bet on straw,
Some wood chips (depending on the wood obviously :-)) will have 
phenolics that the Pleurotus might not like. I would check out the Dutch 
literature (Scientia Horticulturae ?) for stuff on growing Pleurotus - 
they grow most of the Pleurotus available in the UK.
