The following is an unedited excerpt from a previous post:
"If you can't make a spore print with a field mushroom you should wait
until it will make one before you pick it, making sure the universal veil
has dropped and the circumference of the cap has turned upward to stretch
the asci to release the spores."
I presume that by "field mushroom" Mr. Jordan means _Agaricus_ species
such as _A._ _campestris_. Two obvious errors here.
First: "universal veil" should read "partial veil"---if you are eating
"field mushrooms" with universal veils, you are in great danger!
Second: field mushrooms are basidiomycetes, not ascomycetes, and of course
have no asci to "stretch."
