The areas where the fungi are appearing have killed the lawn anyway so I
do not think this argument entirely holds. I do not intend treating the
whole of lawn but just the affected patches. As the original subject title
suggests I do appreciate the ecological aspects.

Normal fungicides are ineffective against basidiomycetes. I wish to know
of one that is.
