Workshop on Epidemiological Parameters
and associated Working Group Meetings
1-3 September 1997, Giessen (Germany)

Second Circular, June 1997

COST Action 8.17 on "Population studies of airborne pathogens on cereals
as a means of improving strategies for disease control", is planning a
workshop on "Epidemiological Parameters" and Working Group Meetings (WG5,
WG6) to be held in Giessen, Germany, 1-3 September 1997.

The workshop will provide opportunities for scientists from different
countries (United Kingdom, Switzerland, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Hungary,
Czech Republic, The Netherlands, Finland, France) to present current
research. The workshop will be chaired by Claude Pope-de Vallavieille
(France) and organised locally by Jörn Pons (Germany).

The presentations will be related to the four subject groups of WG5
(Epidemiological Parameters): mlo, fitness parameters, dispersal, and
modelling. Keynote speakers will introduce the sessions and give general
overviews of epidemiological aspects in contributions of 30 min (excluding
discussion). Other contributions will be of 15 min (also excluding the

Keynote speakers are: G. J. GIBSON (UK), C. A. GILLIGAN (UK), K. H. KOGEL
(Germany) and J. KRANZ (Germany).

Additionally, J. FRANTZEN (COST Action 8.16 - Biological Control of Weeds
in Europe) has been invited in order to establish a cooperation between
the COST Actions 816 & 817 on epidemiological aspects.

The workshop is open to the whole scientific community and will act as a
presentation of the activities of the COST Action

Local Information

Schloss Rauischholzhausen is the conference facility of the
Justus-Liebig-University Giessen. Besides seminar rooms there are also
sufficient overnight accommodation rooms in the Schloss itself.

Schloss Rauischholzhausen is located at the border of a village with the
same name amidst delightful scenery near Giessen in Germany, approximately
80 km north of Frankfurt (Main).

Giessen is easily reached by train from Frankfurt central station, which
is closely connected to the Frankfurt airport.

Because Rauischholzhausen is difficult to reach with public transport, a
bus transfer from Giessen to the conference site on the evening of Sunday,
Aug. 31, and back to Giessen on Wednesday, Sep. 3 will be organised.
