spore staining

As Robert Eicher, I am looking for a method for staining viable spores, by 
epifluorescence at first.

I have the DEFT method for bacteria with acridine orange. Is there any ref.
about the biochemical action of this clouring on DNA and RNA?

I also heard about another new method with DAPI giving a blue colour and a
 subsequent staining of the respiratory activity with CTC. Is there any 
publication or commercial information about it?
