According to a book "Easy Mushroom Cultivation" which was published in Japan (in Japanese) ,beech is suitable for oyster mushroom but not for Shiitake,various kindsof maple,cherry and willow are suitable. Genus Alnus species are also suitable. Toshiro Masai Akashi Hyogo Japan
