Post-doctoral position in Fungal Molecular Biology
A post doctoral position has arisen in the Fungal Biotechnology group
in the Department of Microbiology, University of Stellenbosch, South
Africa, for a highly motivated candidate who is interested in the
molecular biology of especially basidiomycetes. The Department
specializes in the molecular biology of industrially important
microorganisms, especially the yeasts and mycelial fungi. The Fungal
Biotechnology team is a young and dynamic research group who are
housed in an excellently equipped molecular biology laboratory
(including all the apparatus required for advanced molecular
procedures) and also has access to automated sequencing facilities.
The team is involved in research aimed at understanding molecular
mechanisms involved in the degradation of lignocellulose by white-rot
fungi as well as genes encoding hemicellulases in extremophile fungi.
A Ph.D. in fungal genetics will be preferred, but experience with cDNA
library construction as well as general molecular biology techniques
and biochemistry will be also be considered. The position is
available from 1 November 1997 or as soon as possible thereafter.
