14TH NEW ZEALAND FUNGAL FORAY &
                  AUSTRALASIAN MYCOLOGICAL SOCIETY CONFERENCE

DEADLINE:
Registration, payment of deposit, and submission of abstracts:  29 Feb.=

The 14th New Zealand Fungal Foray and Australasian Mycological Society =
Annual
Conference will be held in the World Heritage area of Te Anau, Fiordlan=
d
National Park, South Island, New Zealand. The location is adjacent to l=
arge
areas of virgin Nothofagus forest where ectomycorrhizal fungi are typic=
ally
abundant during May. We plan to visit lakeside and the higher altitude =
forests,
as well as tussock communities. Te Anau is on the shores of Lake Te Ana=
u and
centrally located for tourism, with day-trips possible to several popul=
ar
locations such as Milford Sound, Lake Manapouri, Doubtful Sound, Queens=
town, and
Arrowtown.

Planned programme:
?    Saturday, 6 May, pm: Arrival.
?    Sunday:  Mycological workshop on topic to be advised (e.g., truffl=
eoid
fungi, agarics?).
?    Monday:  Australasian Mycological Society Conference.  Oral and po=
ster
mycological papers. If wishing to contribute a paper, please see the Ca=
ll for
Abstracts form.
?    Tuesday to Friday:  Collecting in areas adjacent to Te Anau (e.g.,=
 Control
Gates; Kepler Track; Eglington Valley; Borland). Each field day, displa=
y tables
with identified specimens will be prepared, and lectures or slide shows=

presented during evenings. Some facilities for laboratory work will be
available.
?    Saturday, 13 May: Departure.

Accommodation and Meals:
Accommodation is at Cascade Lodge, Te Anau Holiday Park, in small basic=

bunkrooms sleeping 2 to 6. Bedding can be hired at a reasonable price f=
or those
not wishing to bring sleeping bags. For booking bunkroom accommodation =
and for
meals, please use the registration form.

The Holiday Park also has a variety of more upmarket accommodation on s=
ite.  If
you wish to book a self-contained motel or tourist flat, instead of the=

bunkrooms, please arrange this privately, though mention that you are p=
art of
the Fungal Foray:

Meals will be prepared in part by participants under the experienced gu=
idance of
our long-suffering mycophagous chef, Lawre Taylor.

Transportation:
For participants arriving from Australia, there is a connecting flight =
from
Sydney to Queenstown arriving at 2.35 pm on Saturday 6 May.  We will en=
deavour
to arrange transport from Queenstown airport to Te Anau (165 km), for w=
hich
there may be a charge; please let us know if you require this.  (There =
is no
regular bus service from Queenstown to Te Anau at that hour of the afte=
rnoon).
A returning flight to Sydney departs Queenstown on the afternoon of Sat=
urday 13
May, at 3.50 pm, and a regular bus service can be used from Te Anau to
Queenstown that day. For domestic travellers who are flying in to Queen=
stown or
Invercargill, please make your own arrangements for road transport.

Costs:
Approximately NZ$40 per person per day for those staying in the bunkroo=
ms, as a
share of actual costs which include food, bunkroom accommodation, and p=
lanned
trips for collecting in nearby regions. This price does not include the=
 cost of
getting to the venue, or privately organised accommodation upgrades.

                               Call For Abstracts

         Australasian Mycological Society Meeting, Te Anau, New Zealand=

                               Monday, 8 May 2000

Abstracts must be submitted by 29 Feb 2000.  They may be submitted on a=
ny
mycological topic. Abstracts will not be accepted unless the presenting=
 author
has registered by the abstract submission date. No member can be senior=
 author
on more than one paper. As the conference is for one day, some people w=
ishing to
present talks may be asked to present posters instead.

Talks
Talks will be of 12 minutes duration followed by 3 minutes of discussio=
n. A
slide projector and an overhead projector will be available.

Posters
Posters should be about 1 metre x 1 metre. Text should be easy to read =
from 1
metre away. (Character height recommendations : Title, 2.5 cm, Headings=
, 10-15
mm, Text 5-8 mm). We will supply Blutack for attaching posters to the w=
all.

Make sure you include the title of the presentation, the name(s) of the=

author(s) and the institution where the work was completed at the top o=
f the
poster. The presenting author must attend the poster during the designa=
ted time
to discuss the work presented.

Format for Submission of Abstract
The abstract must be less than 300 words. Use single spacing for all te=
xt. The
text of the abstract should be a single paragraph.

At the top of the page, please specify the following:
