YACHATS VILLAGE MUSHROOM FEST

Friday, October 20, 6:30-
Saturday, October 21, 10am-5pm

There is no finer time here than autumn. Celebrate this rich,
colorful season at the first annual Yachats Village Mushroom Fest. Savor
some great food, learn about mushroom identification and forest ecology
from experts in the field, purchase mushroom products, prepare for a
first Fungi Fashion Show, and enjoy festive music in a wine and beer
garden settings.
On Saturday, October 21, between 10 a.m and 5 p.m. in the Yachats
Commons, at 4th St. and Hwy. 101, professional ecologists will provide
extensive information displays.
Additionally, both professional and amateur mycologists and forest
ecologists will lead small groups (10 people each) on 1-hour long
educational walks in the forest sof nearby Cape Perpetua. The emphasis of
these walks will be on the ecology of forest fungi. Basic mushorom
identifiaiton and collecting will be discussed, but participants will not
collect their "own" mushrooms on the walk. Participants may wish to
collect mushrooms on their own afterwards, and confirm the edibility of
those specimens with knowledgeable indiviuals staffing the indoor
displays at the Comomons. Walks will be on an excellent, easy trail in a
spectacular coastal mature and old-growth forest. Walks will begin
promptly every half hour starting at 10 a.m.; the last walk will begin at
4:00 p.m. A shuttle van will be available to transport participants
between the festival and the forest, for which they will pay a small fee
to cover costs. Outdoor clothing, sturdy walking shoes/boots, and
raingear are advised. Individuals planning to collect after the walk may
want to bring a folding pocket knife and a sturdy, water-durable basket.
